Fall Home Maintenance Tips

Seasons changing call for a general house cleaning and maintenance that may sound a lot but should be easy.

Simple Tips for a Well-Maintained Autumn Home

Before the temperature drops lower, it’s important to prepare for the colder season and prevent further damage. Keep your house in shape and yourself warm with these simple tips for your home maintenance this fall.

1. Inspect the Roof

Examine if there are any cracking, curling, or any other damage which signifies the need to repair. It is your number one priority in protecting your home.

2. Check Your Exterior Walls

Peeling or blistering paint means it can no longer protect the siding of your home. Paint it with a fresh coat to prevent further repairs in the future.

3. Clean the Gutters and Downspouts

Avoid the buildup of leaves and other debris which can lead to wood rot problems and pest infestations. Don’t ruin your gutters when you can just clean them instead.

4. Check Your Windows

Repair any loose or damaged windows that may allow heat to escape. It is inexpensive and will help you save more money on heating bills.

5. Ready Your Heating System

Clean and replace your filters in your furnace or heating system. Have an expert repair it, if needed, to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.

6. Inspect the Pipes

Make sure the pipes are well insulated to prevent them from freezing and bursting and know how to locate the valve in case they do freeze.

7. Clean the Yard

Rake up the leaves, trim any tree limbs and prune your trees and shrubs. Fall is also the best time to fertilize and reseed your lawn.

Maintaining your house shouldn’t be too difficult and expensive. When little damages are prevented from spreading, you will surely save yourself from a headache and pricey repairs in the long run.
